An overage player in Niagara is on the move. The IceDogs announced on Wednesday that 2005-born forward Cole Cooksey will be joining the Toronto Patrioits of the OJHL.

Cooksey made Niagara’s roster out of training camp as a free agent. He had spent the last two seasons playing in the BCHL for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Before joining the BCHL, he played in the OJHL for the Markham Royals.

The Toronto, Ontario, native was originally selected fifth overall by the Sarnia Sting in the 2022 U18 Priority Selection. Cooksey played a depth role for the IceDogs in his 21 games, recording two goals and using his speed and competitiveness to be a factor on the team’s solid penalty killing unit.

Cooksey is committed to playing in the NCAA next season for Merrimack College.
