The Cambridge RedHawks of the GOHL have shown absolute dominance this season, boasting an almost unbeatable record of 28-1. With a staggering +102 goal differential, they are undeniably the top team in all Jr. A and B leagues across Ontario.
In week two, the OHL’s GOHL Prospect of the Week was Kitchener Rangers’ defense prospect Alex Forrest from the RedHawks. Now, his new teammate, Kalyn McQueen, has brought home the honors for week 13.
McQueen, 17, recorded three goals and five assists for eight points in two games this past week. The brunt of his production came in Cambridge’s dominant 12-3 win over the Caledon Bombers, where McQueen had himself a six-point outing.
The Soo Greyhounds drafted the six-foot right-shot forward late in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. He was selected 240th overall in the 12th round out of the Guelph Gryphons U16 AAA program, where he was teammates with Sarnia Sting forward Ryder Simpson, a former Cambridge RedHawk himself.
McQueen has made his way around the junior circuit in Ontario. The season after his draft year, he moved up north to play in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) for the Blind River Beavers. He had started this season playing for the Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), but has recently come over to the GOHL to play for the powerhouse RedHawks.
In eight games played thus far with Cambridge, McQueen has recorded four goals and six assists for ten points.
