This week's CHL Game of the Week is one you can't miss as an OHL fan — the Soo Greyhounds vs. Saginaw Spirit.
The Greyhounds will head down across the border to take on the Memorial Cup-hosting Saginaw Spirit. Both teams are atop the Western Conference, and are currently tied with 65 points in the West Division. The winner of tonight's game will slide into sole possession of first place in the West Division.
The Soo Greyhounds lead the season series 3-2, but Saginaw has the opportunity to tie it up with a win tonight.
Both teams are on lengthy winning streaks. The Spirit are on a seven-game win streak, and the Greyhounds are on a five-game win streak. One of those will come to an end tonight.
Despite all the stakes surrounding this game in the standings, this will be a competitive matchup with the amount of talent on the ice in this game.
For Saginaw, 2024 NHL Draft eligible defender Zayne Parekh is on a nine-game point streak with 21 points in that span. We have come to expect Parekh to get on the board in every game, and that shouldn't be any different tonight in a marquee matchup.
For the Soo, they get their offence up-and-down the lineup. They have nine players with 30-or-more points this season. The Greyhounds get a significant amount of offence from their blueline as well, from the trio of Kirill Kudryavtsev, Arttu Karki, and Andrew Gibson. These three NHL-affiliated prospects have been remarkable this season, and continue to make impacts in all three zones.
Whether this is the battle of the West or the battle of the Beck's (Owen Beck vs. Jack Beck), this is set to be one of the better matchups we have seen this season, in this week's CHL Game of the Week.
