At 10:30am EST in the nation's capital, the Ottawa 67's are taking on the Kingston Frontenacs in their annual school day game.
The Canadian Tire Centre is the host rink for this game, the home of the Ottawa Senators. The Ottawa 67's players will have the opportunity to play in front of a loud, excited crowd at an arena larger than they've ever played in before. A stadium this large filled with screaming kids can be deafening to the core, but nonetheless there will be loads of energy in this day game.
This will be an incredible experience, not just for the kids in attendance, but for the players to play in an NHL-size arena. Even just to be in the locker rooms of the Ottawa Senators will be a surreal moment.
Henry Mews — the Ottawa, Ontario native — will get to play in the arena that he grew up watching the Sens play in. He said "as a kid growing up watching the Sens play in that barn it's going to be fun. It has been a dream of mine to play there."
Chris Barlas and Will Gerrior — Ottawa-born forwards — will have the opportunity to play in their hometown team's rink as well.
One of the longest geographical rivalries in the league has been between the Ottawa 67's and the Kingston Frontenacs.
Kingston comes into this game on a two-game win streak, winning against the Generals and the Sting this past weekend. They face the 67's who have been electric offensively as of late.
Luca Pinelli is currently on a five-game point streak with 8 goals and 11 points. He will have the opportunity to extend it at today's school day game against the Fronts. His wicked release will be tough for the Frontenacs to handle defensively.
For the Frontenacs, captain Paul Ludwinski has been red-hot. He is on a nine-game point streak, with 14 points through that time period. Kingston hasn't had many bright spots this season, but Ludwinski has been a consistent one.
Pinelli and Ludwinski are the players to watch for either team in this school day matchup. Both players will have the opportunity to shine in the home arena of the Ottawa Senators, in front of a full crowd of screaming students.
