Goaltender Ethan Fraser's story just continues to get better and better, as the overage netminder picked up his first career OHL shutout on Wednesday night.
He led the Otters to a 5-0 win against the Flint Firebirds.
Ethan Fraser made his first career OHL start just a few weeks back with the Erie Otters. Now he is up to 8 games played, and he gets his first shutout against the Firebirds with 26 saves.
Fraser's journey to the OHL is another reason why it is never too late and players should never give up on their dreams of playing a higher level of hockey.
Fraser has spent the previous three seasons playing Junior A as a starting goaltender with the Lindsay Muskies and the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL). Nearing the end of his final season in junior hockey, Fraser gets the call from the team that drafted him in the U18 OHL Draft in 2020 — the Erie Otters.
The Belleville, Ontario-native has since jumped in and played 8 games with the Otters, putting up impressive numbers with a .918% save percentage and a GAA of 2.71.
He was passed on in his first OHL Draft eligible season, taken in the U18 OHL Draft, and didn't start in his first OHL game until the final months of his junior career — but he got there. Fraser's story is nothing short of inspirational, and there are special opportunities ahead with the Otters clinching a playoff spot.
There is a very real chance that Fraser could see some ice time in the playoffs for Erie, as he has given them a chance in every game he's played since joining the team.
