IceDogs leading scorer Kevin He scored an electric overtime winner against Oshawa, as he continues on his dominant draft eligible season.
Draft eligible Niagara IceDogs forward Kevin He had another dominant night at the office with two points, including the game-winning overtime goal. The IceDogs were able to upset the Generals in front of a sold out crowd at home, and Kevin He blew the roof off with his game-winning play.
He gained possession off the offensive zone draw, carried it around behind the net, noticed a pick set by Podrekar and exploded into the high slot — where he was able to rip it top right.
"[Podrekar] picked up the guy and I had a lane right to the net," said He after the game.
Kevin He leads the IceDogs in scoring as a seventeen-year-old draft eligible prospect, with 45 points this season. He has taken on a lot of extra responsibility and a role as the "go-to" guy offensively.
"I've taken on a leadership role here and I'm just trying to make myself and my teammates better everyday, and come into the rink with a positive mindset," said He.
Kevin He has always had the speed. He creates with speed, defends with speed, and uses it as a weapon consistently. Growing up, He said "I took a lot of skating lessons and did a lot of power skating when I was younger."
He has really been able to start to round out his game this year with his increased responsibility. "I've been trying to become more of a two-hundred-foot player and add that to my game," said He.
His two-way game has become more evident this season, and he is supporting his teammates low in the zone more often. He has the speed to jump in the play or back check on time if he does get caught low supporting, which makes him more capable of supporting in all three zones.
Kevin He was ranked 89th on NHL Central Scouting among North American-born skaters.
He has been doing it all for the IceDogs this season, and has helped carry them to a lot of the wins that they do have. Though they won't be competitive in the postseason, Kevin He provides reason for a bright future ahead of this club.
