The "OHL Connection" was fully in tact for Slovakia versus Czechia, as Slovakia wins 6-2.
Servac Petrovsky of the Owen Sound Attack, and Filip Mesar of the Kitchener Rangers each had multi-point games. Mesar had the primary assist on both of Petrovsky's goals, and Petrovsky added another assist for a three-point game.
Both of Mesar's assists were precise, cross-ice passes that found Petrovsky open with lots of space and a wide open net. Petrovsky was able to showcase his powerful one-timer release on both goals.
These two were the backbone of Slovakia's offence in this game, as they were able to take advantage of a poor goaltending performance from Czechia.
Between Mesar's silky hands and vision, and Petrovsky's shot and ability to be in the right position, the two make a dynamic duo.
Petrovsky and Mesar — each out of the OHL — were listed on the first line together alongside Slovakia's captain Adam Sykora. Petrovsky was playing the centre spot.
Servac Petrovsky was a sixth round pick by the Minnesota Wild in 2022, as this is his third tournament representing Slovakia at the World Juniors.
Filip Mesar is a 2022 Montreal Canadiens first round pick, drafted 26th overall. This is also Mesar's third time playing at the World Juniors.
Slovakia's tournament is off to a positive start with a dominant win over Czechia. Petrovsky and Mesar were able to find instant chemistry again, as they are both returning players for Slovakia.
Sudbury Wolves forward Dalibor Dvorsky was quiet on the scoresheet, but his presence was felt per usual. Dvorsky has been playing for Slovakia at the World Juniors for a few years now, and he is one of their constant threats up front.
Slovakia plays their second game tomorrow, December 27th against Switzerland, where they will look to improve to a 2-0 record.
