The London Knights have officially advanced to the OHL Finals after defeating the Saginaw Spirit in six games.
The London Knights are the first team to book their ticket to the OHL Finals, as they defeat the Saginaw Spirit in six games in the Western Conference Finals. This was a series full of tight-nit games, but ultimately the Knights were able to get the job done in six.
In Game 6, it was Easton Cowan's offence and Michael Simpson's goaltending that made the difference for the Knights. Cowan put up two goals and an assist in this game, including a beauty on a one-on-one against goaltender Nolan Lalonde.
In the cage, Michael Simpson made 33 saves on 35 shots, holding the Spirit to only two goals against. Once London gained the lead midway through the third period, Simpson shut the door.
Sam O'Reilly and Jackson Edward potted the other two goals for the Knights.
For Saginaw, Joey Willis and Jorian Donovan got the goals that kept the game close, but ultimately the Spirit could not beat Michael Simpson. Nolan Lalonde allowed three goals on 25 shots against.
Now, the London Knights are officially off to the OHL Finals, where they will get home ice advantage. The Knights still have to await the winner of Oshawa versus North Bay — which is going into Game 7 tomorrow night.
London has had a picture perfect season, but all of that goes away if they cannot get it done in the finals. First, they swept the Flint Firebirds in round one, then they swept Kitchener in round two, and they defeated the Saginaw Spirit in six in the third round.
The Knights know what it feels like to come this far and lose in the OHL Finals — which is what happened last year against the Peterborough Petes. A lot of those players are looking for revenge from last season, and now they will have a few days to get prepared for their new opponent.
