The London Knights are rolling, and they're not going to stop anytime soon.
London has officially moved into first place in the OHL league standings after a dominant 10-3 win over their Western Conference rivals — the Kitchener Rangers.
The green and white have also extended their win streak to fourteen games, outscoring their opponents 89-27 in that spa.
The Knights beat the Rangers first on Friday night, and beat them again on Saturday in the back-to-back. In the 10-3 win on Saturday, London got going early with little pushback. They scored six unanswered goals before Kitchener found the board in the second period.
London has asserted their dominance over Kitchener for now, but something tells me this rivalry isn't over for the 2023-2024 season. These two teams have been dominant all season long, but Kitchener has been at the top for a long time.
With the Knights, it is not just one or two players that are producing. They are getting offence in waves from every position up-and-down the lineup. London was even able to win today without Denver Barkey — the team's leading scorer.
London's 2005-born trio of Barkey, Cowan, and Bonk have been phenomenal this season after they were drafted to the NHL in June. Bonk is currently on a ten-game point streak, which he extended with four points against Kitchener on Saturday.
The Knights have tremendous depth in every position, which is giving them the edge over Kitchener.
In goal, they have former OHL Champion Michael Simpson. On defence, they have multiple NHL-affiliated prospects with Oliver Bonk, Isaiah George, Jackson Edward, and soon-to-be first round pick Sam Dickinson. Up front, they have a plethora of NHL-affiliated talent, but also young rookies in the bottom-six.
Easton Cowan, Denver Barkey, Kasper Halttunen, Jacob Julien, and Kaleb Lawrence are all NHL prospects. In the bottom-six, rookies Henry Brzustewicz, Evan Van Gorp, Sam O'Reilly, and William Nicholl have been pulling their weight as well.
If the Knights get an injury or suspension — as Barkey was suspended for Saturday's game — they are always able to fill the gaps with their depth.
