Despite losing some top talent, there's still plenty to look forward to in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Greyhounds had a fairly successful 2025-26 campaign, going for it in the likely last years of Chase Reid, Brady Martin and trade acquisition Carter George.
While they comfortably beat the London Knights in round one, they got handily dispatched by the Kitchener Rangers wagon in the second round of the playoffs. It might have ended a bit prematurely, but they were a very good team nonetheless.
Moving into the new campaign, the focus shifts towards the next group of players, and there's still plenty to look forward to on this retooled team, with Drew Bannister back behind the bench.

(Photo: Terry Wilson/OHL Images)It'll be up to returning players such as Colin Fitzgerald, Jordan Charron, Travis Hayes, Brady Smith, Callum Croskery, Harris Pangretitsch and more to decide just how high this team can climb, but there are also some nice new additions that should help raise the level.
Trevor Daley Jr. and Jaden LiCastro are both good prospects, while Doman Szogonth will be important as an import on this team.
In goal, David Vermirovsky and Landon Miller should battle for starts, and while neither of them will be expected to replace the very high level play of George, there should be some solid performances at the back.
The Greyhounds should be a well-coached, well-balanced team with some good returners, but maybe not the same level of top-end talent last year's team provided. They'll need some players to really pop to make another run, but nonetheless should still be a solid team in the West.
