The Brampton Steelheads open up their training camp on Monday, Aug. 25. Unfortunately, the organization has lost several players due to them either aging out of the league, graduating to the professional ranks, or leaving for the NCAA

To soften up a bit of the blow, the Steelheads have acquired forward Justin Bottineau from the Guelph Storm in exchange for a 2028 12th-round pick.

Bottineau, 19, is heading into his fourth OHL season. He was drafted in the third round, 56th overall, in 2022 by the Kitchener Rangers. In his OHL draft season, he played for the prestigious Toronto Marlboros organization and was a top contributor alongside teammates Beckett Sennecke, Carter Lowe, and Sam Dickinson. Additionally, Bottineau joins his fellow minor hockey teammates Parker Von Richter and David Green in Brampton for the upcoming season.

Kitchener traded the former Marlboros forward to Guelph in mid-December of last season. Split between the two teams, Bottineau recorded 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) in 46 games. His career-best year came two years ago in the 2023-24 season, when he recorded 19 points (5 goals, 14 assists) in 61 games in Kitchener.

It’s going to be a development season for Brampton, but the experience the Burlington, Ontario, native brings will be good for the younger players on the team.
