Tyler Cooper is dealt from Erie to Brampton for picks as Steelheads add young forward option
The Brampton Steelheads have acquired forward Tyler Cooper from the Erie Otters in exchange for two OHL Priority Selection picks, a 2028 second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in 2029.
Cooper, 16, was a second round pick of the Otters in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, 34th overall. Having appeared in 63 games last season for Erie, Cooper had 11 goals, 12 assists, & 23 points. This season, Cooper has a goal and three points in his first 12 games with the Otters.
The Illinois-native Cooper played his youth hockey in Chicago, appearing with the Chicago Reapers U15 in his draft year, netting 61 goals with 63 assists for 124 points, appearing on a team that included current Soo Greyhounds forward Cam Anderson.
Erie, with a 7-5-2 record on the season, has seen Cooper slide down the Otters depth chart with the additions of Liam Beamish and Colin Kennedy at center.
Likely to see increased ice time on a Brampton team tied for last in the OHL with six points, having a 2-10-1-1 record on the year. With just 35 goals on the season, Brantford could have Cooper instantly put into heavy minutes with a need for an offensive boost.
On behalf of everyone here, we’d like to thank Tyler for his dedication and the time he’s given to the Otters organization,” Erie General Manager Dave Brown said in a press release. “We wish him all the best as he moves forward in his career, on and off the ice.”
