Brampton inks offensive forward Jack Yates to a contract following standout CCHL season
The Brampton Steelheads have signed forward Jack Yates to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Yates was an eighth-round pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection, 155th overall. The 18-year-old left winger spent most of the last season in the CCHL with the Nepean Raiders, where he had a team-leading 48 points, with 19 goals and 29 assists.bYates appeared in five games for Brantford last season, registering a goal.
Born just east of Ottawa in Gloucester, ON, Yates played his junior hockey with the Upper Canada Cyclones, where he had 18 goals, 27 assists, & 45 points in 28 games for the Cyclones U16 team.
The Steelheads will hope to get some offensive production out of Yates, hoping he can provide depth scoring, a necessity for a Brampton team that finished last in the OHL in goals scored with 164.
Yates appeared in the Steelheads preseason game Sunday against the North Bay Battalion, appearing on the third line in what was a largely inexperienced roster of players on the bubble of the main team auditioning for a spot on the team for this upcoming season.
Yates is one of two recently signings for the Steelheads alongside defenseman Jay Nimchonok, Brampton's second round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, 34th overall, who signed with the team on Friday.
Nimchonok, 16, spent last season with Upper Canada College, a Toronto private school unrelated to the similarly named Cyclones team, where he had nine goals and 34 points in 66 games for the school's U16 program.
