Day 1 takeaways from the eleven OHLers taking part in Canada's World Junior Selection Camp.

Day 1 at Canada's World Junior Selection Camp consisted of about an hour of ice time at Sixteen Mile Complex in Oakville, Ontario.

Today's practice consisted of small area games, full-ice two-on-two's, and puck protection/control drills.

It was a "looser" practice to get the players a feel for playing with one another, and to help shake the nerves heading into the selection camp. This was a quick practice that involved a lot of skating and full-ice playmaking.

All eleven OHLers were in attendance today.

Wearing white was Owen Beck, Oliver Bonk, Denver Barkey, and Carson Rehkopf.

Wearing red was Easton Cowan, Owen Allard, Jorian Donovan, Ty Nelson, Paul Ludwinski, and Michael Buchinger.

Dom DiVincentis was in a grey goaltender jersey.

The duration of practice only lasted approximately 45 minutes, with some extra shooting, passing, and faceoffs, before and after.

Owen Allard looked particularly fast and energized, and Michael Buchinger looked dominant in brief viewings on day one.

The competition amongst the players is certainly high, and there were some evident nerves on the ice. Every player is competing for a spot in the world's biggest international junior hockey tournament, that gets underway in just a few weeks.

Coach Alan Letang and the management group will have some very tough decisions to make over the next couple of days, which concludes with two games against the U Sports "all star" team.

Camp continues tomorrow at 10am EST, and will run the majority of the day with players being split into two different groups.
