St. Louis Blues prospect Dalibor Dvorsky is OHL-bound after having contract in Sweden terminated
After terminating his contract with Oskarshamn IK of Sweden's SHL, Dalibor Dvorsky is on his way to Canada to join the Sudbury Wolves. Deciding to leave Europe and join the OHL will allow Dvorsky to adapt to the North American style game sooner rather than later.
Dvorsky began this season in the SHL. Through 10 games with Oskarshamn IK, Dvorsky had no points and was a minus-6 while getting limited ice time. The SHL is an incredibly mature and competitive league, and with Dvorsky’s development largely banking on his performance this season, he has decided to enter the CHL.
Dvorsky was drafted in the second round of the 2022 CHL Import Draft by the Wolves, who are now bolstering their offence with this addition. The chances of Dvorsky coming to the OHL were considered slim, which is why he fell so far in the Import Draft.
Dvorsky has had the opportunity to represent Slovakia internationally at many tournaments over the past few years. His strongest performance came at the 2023 U18’s, where he put up 13 points in just seven games, where he scored eight goals. Last year, he split his time between the AIK and the AIK J20 teams in Sweden. His name has been on the international scale for the past three years, and a strong final draft year resulted in him being selected 10th overall by St. Louis.
The Slovak forward plays a strong two-way game and possesses a lethal shot. Dvorsky is joining fellow NHL-affiliated prospects with the Wolves, David Goyette and Quentin Musty. Dvorsky’s offence needs the opportunity to flourish, and playing with Goyette and Musty — two highly offensive players — will surely allow that. Whether Dvorsky begins on Goyette’s wing, or as the second-line centre is to be determined. Nonetheless, he will have the opportunities to play in all situations for Sudbury, an opportunity he did not have in the SHL.
With Dvorsky, the Wolves have now exceeded the maximum of two import players on their current roster, meaning one of Jakub Chromiak and Jakub Vondras will have to be moved.
