Seattle Kraken prospect David Goyette has been named the Player of the Week by the OHL.
He had 3 goals and 9 points through 3 games this past week.
The Sudbury Wolves once again find themselves atop the Eastern Conference, with a 3 point lead over Brantford & North Bay. The gaps in the East are still very tight, but the Wolves have the edge for now.
The Wolves are finally putting pen to paper this season and being the team that many thought they should be — largely credited to the dominant play of David Goyette.
Goyette is tied with Anthony Romani for the league lead in points with 84, including 31 goals. It is his playmaking that allows him to produce at this rate, he is able to manipulate the offensive zone like few do. He has the hands, shot release, and vision to make plays and he knows how to produce on a nightly basis in this league.
The Wolves have one of the best power plays in the OHL, as they have the privilege of running out three elite NHL-affiliated prospects — David Goyette, Dalibor Dvorsky, & Quentin Musty. These three have all had phenomenal seasons thus far, and make Sudbury's offence quite top-heavy.
Goyette was named captain by the Wolves management staff at the start of this season, something that made a lot of sense. The 2004-born forward leads the team on the ice with his play, but he has also been running the Wolves offence since he broke into the OHL.
In his rookie season, Goyette was a top-six forward getting loads and loads of ice time and exposure in the OHL. So even from his rookie season, Goyette has been leading this team.
Goyette has a bright future at the next level. With the season he is having, it is hard to see Seattle sending him back to major junior for another year. The AHL is the most likely jump for Goyette next season.
