Firebirds' captain Zacharie Giroux, and Blackhawks' prospect Gavin Hayes are both on identical 11-game point-streaks.
These streaks began on October 13th, when Flint beat Sarnia 6-4. Both players scored in this game, and they have been keeping it going ever since. Through the eleven games, Giroux has 17 points, and Hayes has 15.
This past weekend, the pair helped the Firebirds to a huge win against the first-placed Mississauga Steelheads. Hayes put up three points including two goals, and Giroux has two helpers.
Giroux gained the entry and put the puck on a platter for Hayes to one-time it home on his first goal in the game.
The Firebirds made a statement 5-1 win over the Steelheads, with the help of another standout performance from Giroux and Hayes. Inside the point streaks, Hayes extended his goal-streak to five games with a pair against the Steelheads.
In his overage season, Zacharie Giroux is off to a much higher production rate than in past seasons. While wearing the 'C' for Flint, he has been leading the team off-the-ice, and on-the-ice with his production thus far.
Gavin Hayes — the Chicago Blakhawks' 3rd round pick — is coming off an 81-point season. This is a tough rate to replicate, but Hayes' offensive tools make it entirely possible. His shot release is what makes him so lethal at all times in the attacking zone. Hayes can get the shot off much quicker than other players in this league, and his release consistently catches defenders off-guard.
After their underwhelming start to the season, Flint slides into second place in the West Division. They trail the Soo Greyhounds who are six points ahead on the leaderboard, but they are tied for points with the Sarnia Sting. In order for Flint to continue their success, Giroux and Hayes will have to continue to step up.
Looking at other contributors, Braeden Kressler hasn't missed a beat since rejoining the Firebirds from Maple Leafs' training camp. He has piled up 17 points through 12 games, and is on his own six-game point-streak.
The Firebirds' are very top heavy, and their depth in each position is bleak. Their top players — Giroux, Hayes, & Kressler — will have to continue to produce at these rates in-order for Flint to maintain their momentum.
The Firebirds play their next game on Wednesday against the Saginaw Spirit, as they face off for the third time this season. Can Zacharie Giroux & Gavin Hayes keep their 11-game point-streaks going?
