3rd round Anaheim Ducks pick Coulson Pitre has signed his entry-level deal with the club, as Flint continues their postseason run.
Flint Firebirds captain Coulson Pitre has signed his three year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks selected Pitre in the 3rd round of the 2023 NHL Draft, after a dominant draft-eligible season.
Coulson Pitre has become the heart-and-soul of the Flint Firebirds. When Pitre finds success, the Firebirds find success. Unfortunately Flint hasn't had the best season in the win column, but they found a way to make the playoffs — largely due to Pitre's performance.
Pitre is a heavy-framed winger who can dominate both physically and with his shot release. His shot is lethal from just about anywhere in the offensive zone, but he finds a majority of his success from around the front of the net and down low.
The Stouffville, Ontario-native had 55 points in 55 games this season with the Firebirds, but he has had little help around him. One positive story from Pitre in the last two seasons is that he has been able to play alongside his younger brother Kaden Pitre. As Kaden has improved over the course of this season, he and Coulson have been able to play on the same line together for a lot of this year.
Kaden is a 2006-born forward who is eligible for this year's NHL Draft in Vegas.
Otherwise, Coulson hasn't had much help up front — especially since the Firebirds moved Braeden Kressler, Gavin Hayes and Zacharie Giroux at the trade deadline. His right-hand man since the deadline has been Oliver Peer, who Flint acquired from Windsor via trade.
Nonetheless, Coulson Pitre has the potential to be a shot-heavy winger with a physical edge at the professional level. He already has a pro frame at 6-foot-1 and 172-pounds, and he plays an even bigger game than that.
The Anaheim Ducks add to the depth of their prospect pool with this signing. This is one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL, and Pitre adds a unique type of depth to it.
