The son of a former NHL Stanley Cup Champion has officially joined the Owen Sound Attack, bringing more talent and energy to a youthful Attack lineup. This dynamic addition is sure to turn heads as he embarks on his journey to the OHL after spending time in the USHL.
On Wednesday afternoon, Owen Sound announced that the hockey club has signed forward Nicholas Sykora to an OHL contract.
Sykora, 18, recorded 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists) through 61 games split between the Omaha Lancers and Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL during the 2024-25 season. The Roseland, New Jersey native was drafted in the third round (57th overall) by Owen Sound in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.
EliteProspects had the following to say about him on his player page:
“From the right circle on the power play, Sykora is a real threat with his explosive one-timer, and he leverages his shooting threat to rip pucks across the slot to teammates. At 5-on-5, he plays more of a handling-focused game, taking pucks off the wall in transition, deceiving defenders, and looking into the slot for open teammates.”
Niagara IceDogs Sign 2025 CHL Import Draft Selections Vladislav Yermolenko & Ben Reisnecker
The middle of July is undoubtedly the prime time for OHL teams to secure their import players through the CHL Import Draft. We've witnessed a significant surge in import signings over the past week, and the <a href="https://chl.ca/ohl-icedogs/">Niagara IceDogs</a> have put pen to paper with two of their 2025 import draft picks.
Sykora’s father is Petr Sykora, a veteran of 1,017 regular season games — recorded 721 points (323 goals, 398 assists) — and an additional 133 playoff games — recorded 74 points (34 goals, 40 assists).
Petr Sykora won two Stanley Cups during his NHL tenure, one with the New Jersey Devils in 2000 and the other with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009. He also won three World Championship Gold Medals with Czechia and finished his career as an NLA Champion with SC Bern in the 2012-13 season.
Nicholas is a Quinnipiac University commit, expected to head there in the 2026-27 season. He should be able to make his presence known early on in Owen Sound’s lineup, surrounded by young talent like Pierce Mbuyi, Harry Nansi, Cole Zurawski, Michael Dec, and Tristan Delisle.

OHL teams have been taking advantage of the <a href="https://chl.ca/whl-rebels/article/changes-announced-for-2025-chl-import-draft/">new rule change</a>, which allows them to carry three import players on their rosters instead of two. <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/ohl/latest-news/oshawa-generals-crease-battle-next-season-adds-a-third-member-russian-import-goaltender-signs-with-team">Oshawa</a> and <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/ohl/latest-news/saginaw-spirit-sign-new-no-1-goalie-from-russia">Saginaw</a> have each acquired a Russian goalie for next season, selected from the 2025 CHL Import Draft.
