The University of New Brunswick won the U Sports University Cup in Toronto this past weekend, where fourteen former OHL players lifted the trophy.

The University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds lifted the U Sports University Cup this weekend by winning the national title — their 10th in team history.

The UNB Reds had a perfect season. They went 38-0 through regular season, playoffs, and during this championship. This title was theirs to lose, and they made no mistake when it mattered most.

Fourteen former OHL players helped guide UNB to this championship, including the championship MVP Brady Gilmour.

Here is the list of OHL Alumni that suited up for the Reds:

    Colton Kamerrer (Sarnia/OHL)

    Kade Landry (Hamilton/OHL)

    Justin Nolet (Kitchener/OHL)

    Camaryn Baber (Saginaw/OHL)

    Macauley Carson (Sudbury/OHL)

    Brady Gilmour (Saginaw/OHL)

    Austen Keating (Ottawa/OHL)

    Cole Mackay (Soo/OHL)

    Sean McGurn (London/OHL)

    Cody Morgan (Flint/OHL)

    Isaac Nurse (Hamilton/OHL)

    Mike Petizian (Kitchener/OHL)

    Emmett Sproule (Erie/OHL)

    Jason Willms (Barrie/OHL)

The UNB Reds have the OHL written all over them, as they have fourteen of the best OHL Alumni in U Sports currently. Thinking back to how Kade Landry, Isaac Nurse, & Colton Kamerrer were vital through two Hamilton Bulldogs championships, and how Sean McGurn led the London Knights to the OHL Finals while wearing the 'C' last season. Austen Keating tore up the OHL when he played for the Ottawa 67's, with two seasons over a point-per-game.

These fourteen players made a name for themselves while they played in the OHL, and now they all create a dangerous UNB championship team.

The UNB Reds likely aren't done, and will look to run it back next season with a lot of these players eligible to return.

U Sports hockey is not far from the current level of the OHL, and a lot of former CHL players are able to sign professional contracts while playing university hockey.
