Gavin Bryant was instrumental this week to help lift the Niagara IceDogs to a 2-0-1 record this week where they took 5 out of 6 possible points.

Recently named Niagara IceDogs captain Gavin Bryant has been named this week's OHL Player of the Week with his performance through three games this week. Bryant totalled 7 points this week, including scoring his 100th career OHL point on Sunday versus North Bay.

The IceDogs earned 5-out-of-6 possible points this weekend — something that doesn't happen often. They sit in last place in the Eastern Conference, now just three points behind the Peterborough Petes.

This week began on Thursday at home for the IceDogs, where they took on the Sudbury Wolves. They started that game off strong, leading through the majority of the game. Sudbury was able to score late in the third to tie, and again in overtime to get the win 4-3. Bryant scored the third goal for the IceDogs.

Against Peterborough on Saturday, Niagara was firing on all cylinders. Bryant picked up two assists, and his team got the overtime win while he was on the ice. They were able to beat Peterborough 5-4.

Niagara saved their best performance for Sunday, when they took on the North Bay Battalion, who sit in first place in the Eastern Conference. In a highly physical game, Bryant had a four-point outing including scoring on the empty net for his 100th career OHL point.

Gavin Bryant came over this season from the Owen Sound Attack, and immediately took on a leadership role with the IceDogs. Bryant can do it all. He's fantastic in his own end and on the penalty kill, and he's instrumental down low on the power play.

He was able to earn the 'C' from management staff last month, and he has exceeded expectations thus far.

The IceDogs sit six points out of a playoff spot, which is currently held by the Barrie Colts. If Niagara can continue to put up successful weekends like this and take points where they can, they have a chance to move on to the postseason.
