Earlier today, the Guelph Storm announced the signing of 2025 second-overall pick Jaakko Wycisk to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. The 6-foot-1 centre was one of the top prospects heading into the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.

"I'm incredibly honoured and excited to join such a great organization," said Wycisk. "I'm grateful for everyone that has helped me along my hockey journey. I can't wait to get started in Guelph."

Wycisk captained the Sun County Panthers U-16 AAA team this season. The 2009-born forward scored 32 goals and added 29 assists in 30 games this season. He was the top scorer on the team.

At the OHL Cup, he continued to show his talent, scoring two goals and tallying six assists for a total of eight points in just five games.

At times during the lead-up to the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Wycisk was considered a candidate to go first overall. While that title eventually went to Kaden MacGregor, it was a tight race with many people wondering whether Wycisk would in fact, end up being the top drafted player.

London Knights Acquire Max Crete London Knights Acquire Max Crete Yesterday, the London Knights acquired sophomore forward Max Crete in exchange for the rights to Jacob Monks and a 2028 ninth-round selection. This is the third trade made by the IceDogs since hiring new GM Frank Evola.

While there is a lot going for Wycisk when it comes to transitioning to the next level, there is one trend that is worrying. In total, he played six call-up games for the Lemmington Flyers of the OJHL between the regular season and playoffs. He got just one goal in those six games, with zero points coming in five playoff games.

There is a real chance that Wycisk could face similar struggles when he once again faces the older players in the OHL. That said, it is natural that a younger, developing prospect will struggle when put up against older competition. It remains to be seen how he will adapt to the OHL.

Guelph has already made a few moves to improve its roster this season, including trading for Buffalo Sabres prospect Ethan Miedema. Storm fans hope that Wycisk will be a part of a team that returns the Storm to their previous winning ways.
