Two days ahead of the OHL Trade Deadline on Monday, January 8th, the OHL trade market was in full-swing. Nine deals were completed, including eleven players, twenty-one draft selections, and one waiver claim.
Starting off the morning, the Windsor Spitfires sent overage defenceman Roberto Mancini to the Flint Firebirds for a hefty return.
The Spits received a second and a third round pick in return, two high-value draft picks that give them more ammo to use in future trades.
Shortly after the Mancini deal, overager Kaleb Lawrence was dealt to London for an 8th round pick in 2026.
The 67's get their roster down to three overagers (league limit) with this move, getting LA Kings prospect Kaleb Lawrence off of the books.
The IceDogs have traded Brody Crane — who they acquired from London earlier this season — in exchange for a 6th round pick in 2026.
Guelph adds some forward depth with this deal, as Crane will likely fit into their bottom six.
The 67's acquired another overager later today, and had to put 2003-born goaltender Max Donoso on waivers to do so.
Donoso is a starter in this league, and Windsor may be able to deal him to a contending team for assets before the deadline.
This is the second-part of a goaltender swap between Ottawa and Windsor, as the 67's bring in Michelone for OA Max Donoso.
The Spitfires make a third deal with the Ottawa 67's today, sending OA Jacob Maillet to the nation's capital. Windsor gets four picks (2027 2nd, 2024 3rd, 2027 3rd, & 2025 5th).
Maillet will help Ottawa try to win a championship, likely slotting in as their third-line centre behind Brady Stonehouse & Braeden Kressler. Maillet is a high-end supporting player who plays a solid two-hundred-foot game and can be relied upon in many situations.
Owen Beck is heading to Saginaw, a move that has been rumoured for a few days. The Petes get first round pick Aiden Young, and three high-round draft picks in return. The picks include two second's and a third.
Beck will play a huge role in Saginaw's Memorial Cup run in the spring.
Saginaw gets their hands on another offensive-defenceman with Jorian Donovan, but has to give up eight draft picks in return.
Donovan will compete with Zayne Parekh and Rodwin Dionicio for offensive ice, but the Spirit will never be short of options on the back end.
The Petes make another move, trading their captain McCoy to the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for another first round pick — Caden Taylor.
McCoy will add some experience to Sudbury's defence core, having won a championship with the Petes last season.
In busy days from Peterborough, Windsor, Ottawa, & Saginaw, the OHL Trade Deadline is still two days away. The OHL Overage Trade Deadline is tomorrow, likely why so many 2003-born players were dealt in these trades.
Peterborough continues to sell after their championship win last season, and Saginaw continues to prepare for their Memorial Cup.
