Soo Greyhounds legend Joe Thornton will see his jersey lifted up into the rafters on Saturday night at GFL Gardens.

This is the official "Joe Thornton Jersey Retirement Night" put on by the Greyhounds  ahead of their game against the Windsor Spitfires.

Many people remember "Jumbo" Joe Thornton from his days with the Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks, and his short stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. From an OHL standpoint, we remember his time absolutely dominating with the Soo Greyhounds.

The St. Thomas, Ontario native played two seasons with the Greyhounds, where he put up a combined 198 points in just 125 games. When looking back at OHL history in the Soo, Joe Thornton is the second name that comes to mind — behind the great Wayne Gretzky.

Looking back even further to his minor hockey career, Thornton played his minor hockey in Elgin Middlesex. He had 83 goals and 168 points in 67 games in his U15/Major Bantam season. Thornton has been scoring points in bunches since he first hit the ice in minor hockey, and that continued right through his NHL career.

Jumbo Joe wore the iconic #19 on his jersey while he played for the Soo, the number he went on to wear for most of his NHL career. No one will ever wear the number for the Greyhounds again, the memory and significance of the number belongs to the great Joe Thornton.

Joe will be in attendance to watch his jersey be lifted into the rafters tonight. In his interview with the Soo prior to tonight's game, he said "well, you know there are going to be some tears coming from my end." Read more below:
