The London Knights have signed their 2025 first-round draft choice, Alex Campeau, to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Campeau was the final pick, 23rd overall, in the first round of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection. Listed at 6-foot-4, he was the tallest player drafted in the opening round, and admitted he didn’t know he grew another inch in height until his measurements were taken at a top prospects game before the draft.

“I really model my game after Easton Cowan. I look up to him, and he’s a role model for me. I watch a lot of video on him and how he shoots the puck and stuff,” said Campeau when speaking with Ryan Pyette of The London Free Press

The organization has confirmed that he will wear the number 96 next season, last worn by Dante Salituro, who played for the Knights in the 2016-17 season.

Campeau led his Eastern Ontario Wild U16 team in goals (11) and points (32) this past season. He describes himself as a player with a very high hockey IQ and someone who can locate passing lanes that other players can’t.

“I really like to set up my teammates for scoring opportunities, but I can also rip the puck.”

London has done an excellent job of developing their top prospects over the last four years. They have effectively utilized the GOJHL along with organizations like the St. Thomas Stars and London Nationals to help nurture these players in the seasons following their selection by the Knights.

Players like Easton Cowan, Oliver Bonk, and Sam O’Reilly all spent one full season in the GOJHL before coming over to the OHL. Their transition over was seamless, and they immediately became impact players for the team, helping them achieve back-to-back OHL Championships and a Memorial Cup.

The obvious reaction is that Campeau may follow what 2024 London first-rounder, Logan Hawery, did last year and split the season bouncing up and down between the OHL and GOJHL.

However, with forwards Cowan, Denver Barkey, Kasper Halttunen, Jacob Julien, Landon Sim, and Blake Montgomery likely heading off to his commitment to the University of Wisconsin, there are a lot of holes to fill in London’s lineup for the upcoming season.

Campeau could see himself in the lineup as a regular for the Knights in 2025-26.
