Sarnia Sting forward Marko Sikic has signed a contract with the ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers for the remainder of the season.

Overage Sarnia Sting forward Marko Sikic has gone pro — as he has signed a contract with the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL) for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.

Sikic played a full five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, spending time with the Guelph Storm, and most recently the Sarnia Sting. He was traded to the Sting in 2021-2022.

He has always been more of a middle-six forward in major junior, and he's never really been a big producer. Instead, Sikic is more of a reliable, two-way presence down the middle.

Sikic had 57 points in 66 games this season for the Sting, as they miss the playoffs and concluded their season this past weekend.

Now, Marko Sikic will go join the Toronto Maple Leafs' ECHL affiliate the Newfoundland Growlers. The Growlers have a lot of high-producing forwards, but they have signed Sikic to be a calming, reliable presence down the middle.

The 2003-born centre will officially begin his professional career with Newfoundland, and now finds himself apart of the Maple Leafs organization. His contract only runs until the end of this season, when he will likely look to work his way onto another professional deal.
