The rugged blueliner had played in just four games with the Bulldogs since being signed over the summer.

The North Bay Battalion have acquired Montreal Canadiens prospect blueliner Jean-Samuel Daigneault from the Brantford Bulldogs, the teams announced Friday.

In return, the Bulldogs will receive two picks, a 2028 4th (ER), and 2030 6th (NB).

Daigneault, 18, joined Brantford this summer after spending a year with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. The physical defender has one assist in four games with the Bulldogs this season, finding himself mostly on the bottom pair when dressed.

Brantford and GM Spencer Hyman have been very busy in the trade market in the early stages of this season, making a ton of tweaks in and around the bottom of the roster. After an offseason that featured a ton of turnover, and a ton of new signings, it still feels as though the finishing touches are still being put on this team's roster.

For North Bay, they see this deal as an opportunity to acquire a solid, OHL-calibre blueliner who just couldn't find a spot on a deeper team, and someone who could help them out more.

"There was a glut of quality defencemen in Brantford, which opened up this opportunity for him to join out club," Battalion director of hockey operations Adam Dennis said in a press release. "We feel that his playing style fits with our group and, with the help of our coaches, that he can be a big part of our back end."

Daigneault was a seventh-round pick of the Canadiens in this summer's NHL draft, with his ruggedness combined with solid skating ability intriguing their scouts enough to take a flyer with one of the final picks of the draft.

This trade also helps fill a spot with North Bay having hit a bit of an injury bug on their blue line, with Kent Greer and Carter Kunopaski currently out of the lineup.

The first opportunity for Daigneault to suit up in army green will be on Thanksgiving Day against the Peterborough Petes.
