Yesterday, the OHL issued fines to the Kingston Frontenacs and Ottawa 67's as a result of a verbal altercation between their coaches after the game on March 16.
The league assessed a $3,500 fine to the Frontenacs for an inappropriate verbal engagement between Frontenac's Head Coach Troy Mann and a player on the opposing team which led to confrontational actions in the dressing room area at the end of the game.
They also assessed a $2,500 fine to Ottawa due to Head Coach Dave Cameron seeking a confrontation around the dressing room area at the end of the game.
The altercation in question occurred after Kingston beat Ottawa 3-2 in overtime last week.
As Kingston was celebrating the win, Mann directed a comment towards Matthew Mayich of the Ottawa 67's according to Don Brennan's piece in the Ottawa Citizen.
He then exited the ice with his team and headed towards the locker room. Cameron took exception to the comment and stormed off the ice, intent on confronting Mann.
As referees held the two men apart, they launched verbal salvos back and forth resembling two ships of the line in both volume and intensity.
Ultimately, the incident was brief lasting no more than a minute before both coaches returned to their own locker rooms.
The intensity of the game likely spurred on the incident. Ottawa is battling for a playoff spot, while Kingston is fighting for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Ottawa and Kingston have two games left to play before the end of their season.
