
The OHL has released its Power Rankings for the past week, and the Memorial Cup hosts have taken over the #1 spot.
The former first-place London Knights had a difficult weekend in the win column, losing to two bottom-feeder teams — the Peterborough Petes & the Erie Otters. Against two outstanding goaltending performances, the Knights struggled to score.
The Soo and Saginaw have both tied London with 65 points for first in the OHL. London moves down two spots to 3rd overall in the Power Rankings, while Saginaw and the Soo each move up one spot.
The biggest climbers on this list are the Sudbury Wolves, who moved up three spots to 5th overall. The Wolves beat the North Bay Battalion twice this weekend, each by a score of 5-4. Beating North Bay is a significant feat for Sudbury, as they were able to fend off one of the most structured teams in the OHL.
Sudbury is looking to be serious contenders this season, as is North Bay. Defeating them in two consecutive games proves Sudbury's improvement as a defensively-sound, tough-to-play-against team.
Looking further down the rankings, the 67's have moved up two spots after a tough stint following the trade deadline. They were able to defeat three weaker teams this weekend — Peterborough, Niagara, & Oshawa.
Oshawa and Guelph each moved down two spots after Oshawa went 1-2, and Guelph went 1-1 this weekend.
The West continues to be the powerhouse conference this season, as four Western teams have more points than all Eastern Conference teams.
