One of the most impressive performers at the 2025 OHL Cup was Ryerson Edgar. The way he could skate, handle the puck on the move, and the high-end skill level he displayed raised many eyebrows. Those eyebrows continue to rise more and more through the impressive performance by the 16-year-old in his rookie season.

The Niagara IceDogs selected him 10th overall last spring. Considering how he’s playing, Edgar should’ve been a lock in the top five. But there are several reasons why a player may slip in the draft or go higher, and pursuing NCAA scholarship options is a big one.

Recent rule changes between the NCAA and CHL have diminished this reasoning. However, OHL scouts may have suspected that Edgar was not interested in playing in the OHL for an extended period.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, it was announced that Edgar has committed to the University of Michigan

Edgar leads all 16-year-old rookies in the OHL in scoring by a decently large margin (+11). He’s fourth overall among all rookies with 38 points (18 goals, 20 assists) and in goals. He extended his current point streak to eight games on Monday night, netting home his eighth goal in his last eight games.

The IceDog forward is one of the hottest players in the OHL right now.

Edgar is the first player from the 2025 draft class to announce an NCAA commitment (not including players who had commitments before the draft).
