Another year, and another busy OHL Trade Deadline has passed. A few trades trickled in before the deadline, but most teams did their work over the past few days. Here are the last few trades before 12:00pm EST.
The Oshawa Generals have acquired defenceman Zackary Sandhu from the Guelph Storm, in exchange for three draft picks. The picks include a 3rd (2025), a 5th (2026), and a 9th (2027).
Oshawa continues to add reliable defencemen ahead of the playoffs, first it was Connor Punnett, and now it is Zach Sandhu. 2005-born defender Sandu will add some some experience to the Gens young depth on defence, and play a steady role.
The Bulldogs have made another acquisition, by bringing in current IceDogs captain Zakary Lavoie. Lavoie began his OHL career in Mississauga where he did get some draft talk. Since then, his value has dropped. Nonetheless, Lavoie is still a high-scoring, speedy forward that will help Brantford in the playoffs.
In return, Niagara gets two 3rd rounders (2025 & 2026), and an 8th round pick (2025).
London's 16th overall draft selection in 2023 was William Moore, who decided to head the USHL route this season. Moore never committed/signed with London. Barrie has now acquired the rights to him in exchange for a 5th round pick (2027).
Moore may have went first overall in the OHL draft if he wanted to commit to an OHL team. He has a variety of offensive tools, high vision and hockey sense. He's just under a point-per-game at the USHL level, very impressive for a sixteen-year-old. It seems like Barrie's chances to get him to come across the border are slim, but they may have another idea in the works.
The Flint Firebirds have acquired 2005-born defender Gavin Ewles from the Ottawa 67's. Ewles is a reliable defender that can lockdown the zone when necessary. He doesn't get a ton of minutes with the 67's, but will likely get more in Flint. Ewles has 8 assists in 36 games this season, and was drafted in the 5th round in 2021 by the 67's.
In return, Ottawa gets a nice haul with a 3rd round pick (2025) & a 4th round pick (2025) coming back their way.
Guelph has acquired a second round pick (2024) from the Windsor Spitfires. In return, the Spitfires get a second round pick (2025), and a fourth round pick (2024).
The Petes have made another depth pick up, acquiring William Haley. Haley has had a difficult time finding a permanent spot in the Steelheads' lineup, but will get a new opportunity in Peterborough. The 2005-born defender has gotten into 16 games for the Steelheads this season.
The Steelheads receive a conditional 15th round pick in return.
