On the third day of their training camp, the Ottawa 67's announced that Jordan Perrier signed an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.
"It's an unreal experience," said Perrier during media availability. "Especially signing with my hometown team, it's a surreal feeling - a dream come true."
Perrier is the third 2024 draft pick signed by Ottawa this offseason. They signed first-round picks Nathan Amidovski and Kohyn Eshkawkogan to OHL Scholarship and Development Agreements earlier this summer.
Perrier is from the Ottawa area, hailing from Carp Ontario. He played his minor league hockey for the Ottawa Valley Titans. Last season, Perrier scored 16 goals and added 28 assists for a total of 44 points in 29 games.
"Jordan is an elite skater and shooter," said former coach Jordan Johnson. "When playing against higher level competition, his compete level goes up."
The six points that Perrier scored in just four games at the OHL Cup is a testament to the way that Perrier elevates his play against higher-level competition.
The signing comes two days after Ottawa traded Dallas Stars' prospect Brad Gardiner to Barrie in exchange for four draft picks. The trade may mean that there is an increased chance that Perrier could make the lineup if he continues to show well at camp.
"Jordan is a fast and skilled player who played a key role on his Ottawa Valley Titans team last season," said 67's GM James Boyd. "We are excited that Jordan has chosen the 67's to continue his development."
It has been an off-season of moving out players for Ottawa. The team also traded Finnish forward Tuomas Uronen earlier in the Summer. The combination of overage players and trades results in a large number of available spaces on their roster.
Depending on how things shake out at camp, we may see a very young Ottawa team for the upcoming season. It remains to be seen whether Perrier will be able to claim one of the available spots.
