Jack Beck has signed his first professional contract with the AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Overage OHL forward Jack Beck has signed a one-year deal with the Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton Penguins after aging out of major junior hockey. This is Beck's first professional contract, and it extends the length of the 2024-2025 AHL season.
Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton is the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. Beck isn't the first OHLer to sign a contract with the club this offseason, as they signed Barrie Colts forward Beau Jelsma to an Amateur Tryout Agreement a few weeks ago.
Jack Beck spent the majority of his OHL career with the Ottawa 67's, but ended it with the Soo Greyhounds. Beck's faced some injury issues throughout his junior career, causing him to miss a lot of time in some seasons.
Offensively, this past season was his best. Beck put up 85 points in 67 games — managing to stay healthy too. Beck has been over a point-per-game since his second season in the OHL, and managed to get drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 6th round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
The Soo Greyhounds brought in Beck this season to add to their championship-contending roster. The Greyhounds' run would end in the second round against the Saginaw Spirit — the recent Memorial Cup winners.
The Western Conference playoffs in the OHL this year was a tight race, and it seemed like every team was in the running for the championship. The Soo was certainly one of the teams trying to build a championship roster, and Beck was brought in for just that reason.
Beck will now get his first touch on professional ice with Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton at the beginning of next season, as his OHL career comes to an end.
