Owen Sound Attack defenseman Alec Leonard announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey next season for Bentley University.
Born in Toronto, Leonard has been something of a journeyman during the last four seasons. He started his OHL career with the Niagara IceDogs, who selected him in the second round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. He then spent the last two years with the London Knights before being moved to Owen Sound at the beginning of this year.
Leonard helped London to win an OHL Championship last season, scoring four goals and adding 14 helpers for 18 points during the regular season. It was by far his most productive season.
This year Leonard recorded two goals and seven assists as a member of the Owen Sound Attack. He also scored a goal against his former team in round one of the OHL Playoffs.
At 5-foot-11, Leonard is on the small side for a defenseman. However, his 237 games of OHL experience will be an asset as he transitions to NCAA hockey.
While he did not put up a ton of points during his OHL career, he is a reliable defender who can be counted on to perform when necessary.
He will have the opportunity to continue playing hockey at Bentley University next year while getting a university education.
