Nolan Newton (Barrie Colts), Finn Wilson (London Knights), & Spencer Horgan (Sudbury Wolves) have signed OHL Scholarship & Development Agreements.

    Recent Signings Around the OHL

    Barrie Colts: Nolan Newton

The Barrie Colts signed Sudbury-born forward Nolan Newton to an OHL Scholarship & Development Agreement on Monday. Newton was drafted by the Colts in the 5th round in 2022.

He has spent the last two seasons with the Greater Sudbury Cubs in the NOJHL (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League), a leg of Junior A in Ontario. To begin this season, Newton has been on a tear. He played 17 games with the Cubs, putting up 39 points including 19 goals. Producing at that rate in a league that is much older than Newton, is very impressive.

The seventeen-year-old signs with the Colts, where he will add to their depth up-front. Barrie also just released 2004-born forward Cooper Matthews, which creates more room for young players like Newton.

Recent signee of the Colts, Jaiden Newton just played his first OHL game with the club over a week ago. Nolan Newton should get the same honours this weekend, as the Colts play a three-in-three.

    London Knights: Finn Wilson

The Knights signed goaltender Finn Wilson on Tuesday, who is playing extremely well with the Georgetown Raiders Junior A Club (Ontario Junior Hockey League).

London signs 2006-born Wilson to add some youth to their older goaltending pool. 2007-born Alexei Medvedev is the only other young goaltender.

Wilson, the Hamilton, Ontario, native certainly had a unique path until this point. He was drafted in the 15th round by London in 2022, proving that the round you get drafted in doesn't matter, it is what you do once you get drafted. Uniquely, Wilson spent a season playing Junior C with the Port Dover Sailors, where he played 16 games and put up great numbers. In the big jump from Junior C to Junior A, he was able to obtain a roster spot with Georgetown in the OJHL this season. He has played 12 games thus far, putting up an impressive 2.61 GAA, and a .920% save percentage.

London signs Wilson, who has continued to work hard to get to this point. He may continue to play with Georgetown, but he has the opportunity to get into a couple games with London this season.

    Sudbury Wolves: Spencer Horgan

Spencer Horgan signs with the Sudbury Wolves, after his incredible start to the season with the Espanola Paper Kings in the NOJHL. Horgan has put up 45 points from the blueline in just 21 games,

The 6-foot-0 defender will join the Wolves for their three-in-three this weekend on the road. With the trade of Import Draft defender Jakub Chromiak, the Wolves are in need of some depth in the defensive end. Horgan should step right in and provide some secondary offence from the point.

2005-born Horgan was never drafted in the OHL, and shows the hard work and dedication to be signed as a free agent.
