Anaheim Ducks 5th round pick and current Saginaw Spirit defenceman Rodwin Dionicio has officially been named to Switzerland's World Junior roster for the third straight year.
The Swiss defender will look to help lead his team to a medal at the 2024 World Juniors, which would be Dionicio's first medal at the event.
Dionicio has had an eventful start to this season, after being traded from the Windsor Spitfires to the Saginaw Spirit just a few weeks ago. He has fit in quite well in Saginaw, though Zayne Parekh has stolen his PP1 spot that he is used to.
Dionicio is a dynamic offensive-minded defender, he is a fluid, mobile skater and he is constantly looking for ways to create chances. He's deceptive with the puck on his stick, and can make opponents look lost in their own zone. Offensively, he is one of the best blue liners in the OHL, not many defenders can create as often as he does.
He currently has 28 points in 24 games with Windsor and Saginaw.
He does need to be paired with someone who can lockdown the zone when Dionicio gets caught offensively.
Dionicio will play a big role once again in these World Juniors, likely being Switzerland's go-to player on the back-end.
Selected by the Ducks at the draft in Nashville as an overage player, Dionicio will look to establish himself on the international stage. Anaheim has a deep pool of defensive talent, and Dionicio should begin to try to separate himself from this group. Also in Anaheim's prospect pool is Olen Zellweger, and Tristan Luneau who is playing for Canada. Two defensive prospects with sky-high offensive talent and potential.
Dionicio will get to shine on the international stage while representing Switzerland for the final time in his junior career. He will look to bring home some hardware at the conclusion of this tournament.
