Earlier today, the Sarnia Sting announced that the OHL Board of Governors approved the sale of the team to new majority owners Ryan Finch and Mark Guy. Former Nashville Predator David Legwand maintains a minority stake in the team.

Finch is the President of Finch Auto Group, which is one of the largest car dealership groups i Ontario. He was recently inducted into the London Business Hall of Fame in recognition of his business prowess and community impact.

"The Sarnia Sting are more than a hockey team," said Finch. "They're a source of pride and inspiration for the region. I am honored to be part of the next chapter."

Guy, on the other hand, is an old hand when it comes to the hockey community, having worked for more than two decades with Newport Sports Management, one of the NHL's top player representation agencies. He notably represented players like New York islanders' forward Bo Horvat, Philadelphia Flyers' star Travis Konecny, and Washington Capitals' bruiser Tom Wilson.

In his youth, Guy played for the London Knights. In three years, he scored 73 points in 192 games before moving on to play USports with the University of Western Ontario.

The Frontenacs received a 2027 third-round pick, a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick in exchange for overage forward Matthew Soto.

"I've spent my life in this game, and I believe in what the Sting represent," said Guy. "This is a strong franchise with passionate fans, a dedicated staff and a great future. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute and excited about what lies ahead."

The new triumvirate of owners truly has everything you could ask for in terms of knowledge and skills. In Legwand, you have a person who was a former professional player and someone who has been with the Sting since 2015. Finch brings business acumen and community outreach to the group, and Guy understands the contractual elements of hockey.

Bryan Crawford, also spoke about the ownership change citing his own excitement.

"Having had the opportunity to get to know both Ryan and Mark over the past few months, it's very evident that both of these men care deeply about junior hockey, the players and being an active community presence in Sarnia-Lambton," said Crawford. "It's with great pleasure that I welcome both Ryan and Mark to the Ontario Hockey League as they join David Legwand in the tremendous work he's doing with the Sting franchise."

The last step in the process is for the City Council of Sarnia to approve the ownership change. Once that gets squared away, the new ownership group will man the helm starting later this month. They have already announced a press conference will take place on June 16 to go over the changes.
