The Saginaw Spirit are loading up even more in preparation for their Memorial Cup run, as they acquire Montreal Canadiens second round pick & 2023 OHL champion Owen Beck.

After flying back from the World Juniors in Sweden, Owen Beck will have to pack his bags once more as he is on his way across the border to Saginaw.

The Saginaw Spirit are taking another step in loading up for their Memorial Cup run, as they acquire Owen Beck.

Beck adds to a long list of Saginaw centres — including Hunter Haight, Matyas Sapovaliv, Ethan Hay, and several others that are currently playing on the wing. He makes this team a whole lot deeper, if it wasn't deep already.

Canada had a disappointing loss in the Quarter Finals of the World Juniors, but Beck gets some good news upon returning home. He will have the opportunity to play in a second-straight Memorial Cup, and hopeful playoff run with the Saginaw Spirit.

Saginaw is taking this hosting thing very seriously, as they have made several moves in preparation of the Memorial Cup. They also acquired Alex Christopoulos, Rodwin Dionicio, Ethan Hay, and Nolan Lalonde earlier in the season.

The addition of Owen Beck makes the Spirit even scarier, as the Habs prospect will be a difference maker come playoffs.

Beck is a complete two-way centre, who's phenomenal in the faceoff dot and plays at a high pace. He was a consistent contributing factor for Canada at the World Juniors, playing on their 'checking' line and generating offence from there.

Beck potentially could have made the Habs roster this season, as he was incredible at their training camp. With one more year of development under his belt, he will likely be able to make a smooth transition to the big club next fall.

Not only has this been a season of development for Beck, it has been a season of huge opportunity. He was able to lead the Petes for the first half of the season, before heading to Sweden to lead Canada as their only World Junior returnee. Now, he will get to play on a team full of offensive firepower, and have the opportunity to compete for an OHL Championship and Memorial Cup.

In return, the Peterborough Petes acquire OHL first round pick and rookie Aiden young, two second round picks (2025 & 2027), and one third round pick (2026).

This is a great return for the Petes as well, as Young makes three first rounders from the 2023 draft class — including Carson Cameron & Nico Addy.

Young is a highly intelligent offensive player that hasn't played many minutes for Saginaw this year. He sees the ice on an advanced level and he's quick on the attack. Young will be a great add for the Petes over the next couple of seasons.
