The Spirit won their first Memorial Cup in style. Not only did they defeat the London Knights, who beat them in six games in the Western Conference Final of the OHL playoffs, but they did it on home ice. They became the 13th team to win the Memorial Cup while hosting the tournament.
The tournament's final game was worthy of the occasion. Memorial Cup MVP Owen Beck scored a pair of goals in the first period to give Saginaw the early lead.
At the end of the second, it was a 3-1 game for Saginaw. Joey Willis scored unassisted for the Spirit and Kasper Halttunen got London on the board.

Then began the Knights' heroic charge. Easton Cowan scored to bring London within a goal, and under three minutes later Sam Dickinson scored to tie it up.
At the end of the day they don't ask how they ask how many. With only 12 seconds remaining in the game, Saginaw threw the puck on goal and after a couple of whacks at the puck Josh Bloom tucked it past Michael Simpson and sealed the deal.
The rink exploded and 12 seconds later the Spirit won the Memorial Cup for the first time in franchise history.
Fans who attend the event will have the unique experience of reliving the game through the team's eyes. Hearing their comments and understanding just what they were thinking and feeling as they won a historic victory.
