Last night, the Oshawa Generals defeated the Barrie Colts 7-1 to take a 2-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Anaheim Ducks prospect Beckett Sennecke scored a hattrick and added an assist in the Generals' victory.

"I felt good," said Sennecke. "The most important thing is that we stuck to our structure for the full 60 minutes."

Oshawa dominated Barrie from beginning to end, outshooting the Colts 41-32 by the end of the game. While Sennecke was the star of the show, several members of the cast had big nights. Nashville Predators prospect Andrew Gibson scored two goals while Colby Barlow and Luca Marrelli each tallied a goal and three assists.

Sennecke started the game with a bang. He threw a big hit on the opening shift before streaking in on his off wing and firing a shot past the glove of Barrie goaltender Sam Hillebrandt.

"It's why they start," said Head Coach Brad Malone. "That was certainly a leadership shift that set the tone for the rest of the bench."

By the end of the period, Oshawa held a 2-0 lead after Gibson scored his first of the game.

Sennecke scored two more goals in the second period, the first of which came on the power play when he channeled his inner Alex Ovechkin to blast a one-timer from the dot past Hillebrandt.

The Generals' power play thrived in game two, scoring on four of their seven opportunities. They were aided in their endeavors by a frustrated Colts group that took penalty after penalty.

Sennecke's second goal of the period came on a breakaway where he showcased smooth hands and patience to pull the puck around Hillebrandt.

Generals Hand Colts Their First Loss On Home Ice Generals Hand Colts Their First Loss On Home Ice Last night, the Oshawa Generals defeated the Barrie Colts 3-1 in the opening game of the Eastern Conference Final. This is the first time during the 2024-25 playoffs that the Colts have failed to win on home ice.

"I thought he left the D-zone and anticipated breaks a lot better than some other nights," said Malone. "You can tell when Beckett is going and obviously that forecheck and that hit certainly set the tone and let everyone know he was here to play tonight."

The game seemed all but over after two periods of play with the Generals leading 5-0. They continued to shut down the Colts in the third period until Owen Van Steensel scored his seventh of the playoffs with just under two minutes left in regulation.

An old adage states that you aren't in trouble until you lose on home ice. Having lost their last two games on home ice, the Colts are in deep trouble if you put faith in the saying.

In order to regain home-ice advantage, the Colts will need to take two games away from Oshawa on the road. If you put faith in that saying, the Colts are in deep trouble, having lost the last two games on home ice. A win in game three could go a long way towards righting what looks like a sinking ship.

Meanwhile, the Generals will return to the Tribute Communities Centre feeling confident after a pair of wins to start the series. Game three takes place tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
