Soo Greyhounds Make Two Trades, Acquiring Gavin Hayes & Jacob Frasca

The Soo Greyhounds have been busy on the last Sunday before the OHL Trade Deadline, bringing in two big pieces in preparation for the postseason.

First up, Gavin Hayes is heading up north to Sault Ste Marie to join the Greyhounds. In return, the Flint Firebirds have acquired Connor Clattenburg, Alex Kostov, & four draft selections.

    The draft picks include a 3rd round pick (2025), 5th round pick (2025), 4th round pick (2026), and a 2nd round pick (2027).

Hayes is a huge acquisition to the Soo's forward core, and will provide some steady offensive production.

Gavin — the brother of Avery & Travis Hayes — is a sharpshooting winger who can rip the puck from just about anywhere in the attacking zone. He has lightning-quick speed, and can get pucks to the net just as fast.

Gavin joins his brother Travis with the Greyhounds, and they will unite for some potential "sibling chemistry" as they both have similar play-styles.

Gavin Hayes is just returning from Sweden where he played in the World Juniors with USA, and won a gold medal. He will bring a lot of experience to the Greyhounds' lineup, from playoff runs with Flint, and international experience with the United States.

The Soo are deep in the centre position, but they lack a strong scoring punch on the wing. Hayes can provide primary scoring, and will be a lock on their first line and powerplay units.

Speaking of centre depth, the Greyhounds just added to it, acquiring Jacob Frasca from the Barrie Colts.

Frasca is a natural centre, but we have seen him play on the wing in Barrie as well.

Jacob also has brothers who have been through the OHL — Jordan & Gabriel Frasca. Jacob is a heavy forward who stands at 6-foot-4, and plays a mature game offensively.

Through an injury-filled season, he is finally healthy again and will be ready to join the Greyhounds up north. Frasca is an ideal playoff-type forward — he plays with an edge and is a tough customer in front of the net. He will generate offence for the Greyhounds down low using his hands in tight, and his ability to get shots up in tight.

The Soo are loading up for a hopeful playoff run, and the addition of Hayes & Frasca certainly adds to their offensive depth. Both have the ability and experience to be top line players for the Greyhounds, and they suddenly have lots of options up front.

Hayes & Frasca will join the likes of Bryce McConnell-Barker, Owen Allard, and Jack Beck in the Soo's forward-core, which is suiting up to be one of the best in the OHL.
