Czech goaltender David Vermirovsky has inked a deal with the Soo Greyhounds

The Soo Greyhounds have signed goaltender David Vermirovsky to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, the team has announced.

Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis in a statement said that he believes in Vermirovsky's ability to "become a top-end goaltender" with the club.

We’re excited to welcome David to the Greyhounds organization. David has all the tools to become a top-end goaltender and has already gained valuable experience playing against top competition in Czechia and on the international stage. We believe he has the work ethic, athleticism, and character to make a significant impact with our team, and we’re looking forward to helping him continue his development in Sault Ste. Marie.

In the same statement, Vermirovsky expressed excitement at playing in Sault Ste. Marie, saying he's prepared to begin with the club.

I’m very honoured to be selected by the Soo Greyhounds and I can’t wait to start the season here. I’ll do everything I can to help the team win, and I’m excited to meet the fans and be part of the Greyhounds family.

Vermirovsky, 18, was selected by the Soo in the first round of the 2026 CHL Import Draft, 36th overall. Despite being ranked third among International goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting, Vermirovsky went undrafted in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The 6'5 right-handed netminder appeared in 27 games last season in the Czechia U20 league with Dynamo Pardubice, having a 13-14-0 record with a 3.23 GAA and a .904 SV%.

Born in Cordoba, Spain, Vermirovsky represents Czechia internationally, having lived in the country for the majority of his life. Vermirovsky played six games with the Czech U18 team with a 3-3-0 record with a 3.17 GAA and .906 SV%.

With the graduations of the Greyhounds tandem of Carter George and Landon Miller, Vermirovsky could be a contender for the starting spot with the Soo for next season.
