Brampton adds a potential overage scorer from London for fairly cheap.
The trades keep on filing in as the puck drops for a majority of teams on Friday night, as the Brampton Steelheads have made a move to acquire forward Geno Carcone from the London Knights.
In exchange, London will receive a fourth-round pick in the 2030 OHL draft.
Carcone, 19, signed with London this summer after playing three productive seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL. Last year, he recorded 52 (13+39) points in 58 games.
However, it seems like there was no room for him on this extremely deep Knights team, as now the Woodstock, GA, native is being shipped out to the Steelheads on the night of the season starting for both sides.
For Brampton, on top of the offensive boost Carcone will bring, this move fills their second of three overage spots this season, joining Richmond MacGregor as the two 2006-born players on the roster.
The Steelheads still have room to add a third overage player later on this season if they desire and find the right fit.
London is now in the same boat, with just two overage spots filled after dealing Carcone. Thomas Zocco and Evan Van Gorp take up their 2006-born spots, with now one open.
With a team as aggressive as the Knights looking to have another big season, could this be a precursor to another move where London brings in a different type of player to fill that final overage spot? Only time will tell.
