The Peterborough Petes have made their second significant trade ahead of the deadline, sending Sam Mayer to the nation's capital.

The Peterborough Petes continue their "sellers mentality" ahead of the OHL Trade Deadline, as they have dealt defenceman Sam Mayer to the Ottawa 67's.

The Petes have now dealt their number one and number two defencemen, with Konnor Smith traded to Owen Sound, and now Mayer to Ottawa. These two are a large reason why Peterborough was so hard to play against in the playoffs last season.

Mayer is a 6-foot-3 left shot defenceman who plays a complete two-way game.

He plays a rangey game with a long reach, and possesses all of the traits a coach would want in a lockdown defender. At the same time, Mayer's offensive game has emerged over the past two seasons. The Petes have been lacking a suitable power play quarterback, even since last season. Mayer has been able to jump in and help the power play unit at times. It helps that he has a heavy shot from the point as well.

Mayer is a 2003-born defender, and will be the fourth overage player on Ottawa's current roster. Therefore, the 67's will have to get rid of one of the previous three to make room for him.

    In return, the Petes receive three draft selections; a 2024 2nd rounder, a 2027 3rd rounder, and a 2027 5th round pick.

Yesterday, the 67's acquired Braeden Kressler from the Firebirds, and now they acquire Sam Mayer. They are looking to be a strong contending team and to be tough to play against, heading into the postseason.
