Anaheim Ducks prospect Beckett Sennecke will attend Canada's National Junior Team selection camp.

Hockey Canada announced this morning that Beckett Sennecke of the Oshawa Generals has been added to Canada's National Junior Team selection camp.
Anaheim's first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft was added to the selection camp roster due to the fact that Easton Cowan will not participate for precautionary reasons. While Cowan will not participate in the camp he will be in attendance and he is expected to play a large role on this year's National Junior team.
Cowan has been dealing with nagging injuries that forced him to miss several games last week and exit the game against Oshawa on Friday night. His lack of participation in the selection camp suggests he is trying to deal with the issues now to avoid missing the tournament.
Sennecke's exclusion from the original list of players invited to camp caused fans and analysts to voice strong opinions online last week. Many believed the young star ought to have been included in the selection camp from the start.
So far this season, Sennecke is showcasing otherworldly skill. In 26 games, he has amassed 21 goals and 23 assists for a total of 44 points. He currently sits sixth in the OHL in points scored.
At 6-foot-4, Sennecke is a big forward with above-average hands and hockey IQ. He has a good shot, but his combination of hands and speed makes him a problem for defenders to deal with.
If Sennecke is selected to play for Canada at the World Junior Championships in Ottawa expect him to showcase the skill that has made him a dominant force in the OHL this season.
While there are no questions about the offense, there are some concerns that Sennecke would be ill-suited to play a bottom-six role for Canada. Given his age and the strength of Canada's team, that is likely to be the role available to him if he cracks the roster.
All those players invited will travel to Petawawa this week for the opening of the selection camp. Hockey Canada officials will then begin the process of winnowing down the roster to arrive at the group that will represent Canada in the nation's capital.
