With a goal against Barrie last night, Zayne Parekh has scored his 23rd goal of the season, making him the leader in goals by a Spirit defenceman in one season.

Zayne Parekh has had a season for the ages, and he doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. With a goal against the Barrie Colts on Saturday night, he is up to 23 on the season.

Parekh's 23rd goal of the season made history last night, as he has the most goals scored by a Saginaw Spirit defenceman in a single season

The Spirit defenceman is still only seventeen-years-old, and he has had a historical season in many ways this year. He has 23 goals in 45 games, totalling 68 points — good enough for second in points among OHL defencemen.

Parekh has watched his draft stock steadily incline all-season-long, as he could easily be taken in the first half of the first round.

Not only has he had a great season individually, but he is the cornerstone of a very skilled Saginaw Spirit team. NHL prospects Rodwin Dionicio & Jorian Donovan are on the blueline with him, but Parekh is still out-performing these two by a mile. He plays the majority of the two minutes on every Spirit powerplay, and it seems like he is on the ice every-other shift.

Parekh has a motor that just won't stop. He is always making something happen when he is on the ice, and usually he has the puck in his hands. Parekh creates more offence than any other OHL defenceman, and that has become clear game-in and game-out.

The top draft eligible defender still has 23 games to play. Does he get up to 30 goals? 35?

No mountain seems too tall to climb for Parekh right now, and he is gearing up for a dominant postseason run too.
