Owen Beck has had quite the year of 2023, from finishing the World Juniors with Canada in January, to winning the OHL Championship with Peterborough, to the Memorial Cup, and now he is back in the red and white.
"So many dreams of mine have come true, so many special memories that I never thought would happen so early on in my career," said Beck.
Beck currently plays for the Peterborough Petes and is one of the top faceoff centremen in the OHL. The Petes have been hot as of late, despite a very inexperienced group compared to last year. Beck has been a large part of the leadership group in Peterborough, as they hope to make it to the OHL Finals for the second-straight year.
Peterborough has earned the title of the "Pesky Petes" this season, being the team that just won't seem to go away, even when down in a game.
"We love that identity, just means we're a team that never goes away and never stops working."
The Petes currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference, with a 14-10-3 record.
Team Canada had its first official practices today that consisted of two different groups. Beck was in the second group on the ice today.
Other OHLers in this group included Carson Rehkopf, Easton Cowan, Michael Buchinger, and Paul Ludwinski.
Beck spoke greatly to the high tempo on the ice during these practices, as everyone is fighting to earn their spot.
As the only returning player from last year's team, Beck should naturally take a leadership role. By the way his teammates are talking about him, it seems pretty likely that we will see him with a letter on his jersey once this tournament begins.
