Ontario is a small world for minor hockey — despite the dozens of teams and leagues across the province. These players have been playing with and against each other in this respective age group since they first started playing hockey.
There are always familiar faces, especially for those who played their OHL draft eligible season in the GTHL (Greater Toronto Hockey League).
First draft-eligible ranked OHL player Sam Dickinson played for the U16 Toronto Marlboros in his OHL draft season. He will get to rekindle with ex-teammate Beckett Sennecke, who also played his draft season with the Marlboros.
The Marlboros are one of the most storied franchises in the GTHL, and it is no surprise that both Sennecke and Dickinson were two of the team's leaders. Sennecke lead the team in points that season with 80 points in 45 games. Dickinson ranked 2nd among defencemen with 39 points in 45 games.
Dickinson and Sennecke are two players ranked very highly for the upcoming NHL Draft, and each will notice a familiar face on the other side of the red line in this game.
Dickinson is representing Team Red, while Sennecke will play for Team White.
Speaking of two highly-ranked NHL Draft eligible players, Liam Greentree and Zayne Parekh will both be playing against each other.
Greentree and Parekh both played for the U16 Markham Majors in their OHL draft eligible season. Not surprisingly, they ranked first and third respectively in terms of production that year for the Majors.
Greentree will represent Team White, while Zayne Parekh will play for Team Red at the CHL Top Prospects Game. They may be playing against each other, but once teammates in minor hockey, you can bet they will always root for each other.
