Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has set a new franchise record for the London Knights by extending his point streak to 34 consecutive games.
Easton Cowan continues to add to his incredible season, and he keeps picking up points. He has now reached the 34 game mark on his point streak, setting a new franchise record for the London Knights.
The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect just won't stop scoring for the London Knights, as he's up to 92 points in 52 games this season. Cowan missed a few OHL games to start the season while he took part in Toronto's pre-season games, but that hasn't stopped him from producing among the best in the league.
Cowan is tied with Quentin Musty (SBY) for 6th place among the OHL's scoring leaders.
The 2005-born forward has done it all for London this season. Not only is he scoring at an unbelievable rate, but he is doing it on both ends of the ice. Cowan is one of the better defensive forwards in the OHL, and his hockey sense and awareness is what makes him unique.
Many OHLers can produce lots, but they aren't two-way players and they don't help out much in their own zone. Cowan is different — and he has seven short-handed goals this season to show for it.
In his rookie season last year with London, Cowan strictly focused on his defensive game and reliability to start. He was a middle-six winger who played heavy short-handed and defensive minutes, and he was a player you wanted on the ice to defend a lead.
As the season progressed, he began to expand upon his offensive game. This season, he has exploded offensively while still keeping his two-way game in tact.
Cowan focused on the little things when he entered the OHL, a rarity for a lot of prospects. But those little things allow him to take the risks and create heavily offensively, and it is a large reason why he is able to produce so much without giving up anything.
Now, there aren't many players in major junior that can stop the Maple Leafs' first round pick.
