London Knights forward and Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey talks about his time in London, and competing with teammates Oliver Bonk & Easton Cowan at selection camp.
Denver Barkey was invited to Canada's World Junior Selection Camp alongside his teammates Easton Cowan, and fellow Philadelphia Flyers prospect Oliver Bonk.
"We've been tight ever since we got drafted to London when we were sixteen-years-old."
In 2021, London drafted Barkey in the first round, followed by Easton Cowan in the second, and Oliver Bonk in the third. It's safe to say that these picks have panned out, with all three players getting drafted in Nashville this past summer.
"I think we all deserve it, we've worked really hard the past three years in London, and we want the best for each other."
These three have become the cornerstones of the London Knights over the past two years, and they were able to help lead their team to the OHL Finals last season.
In a long playoff run and unfortunate loss to the Peterborough Petes, Denver said his most important lesson learned was that "you really got to buy in, every game, and every shift."
At Canada's World Junior Camp, Barkey hopes to show that he can "be a versatile player, and slide up and down the lineup."
More on his individual game and what he hopes to showcase at camp:
His energy and compete is constant when he is on the ice, he never takes a shift off and is always looking to make things happen. He battles hard physically and in the corners, despite his 5-foot-9 frame.
Barkey's compete level may be the difference between making the team, and not making the team. A high work ethic and being hard to play against seem to always be two of Canada's common characteristics when selecting their teams for the World Juniors.
